A Wayne County man was shot in the hip by his wife Monday, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Classie Best Dawson, 50, of 117 Saulsberry Drive, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and held without bond after deputies investigated a man turning up shot at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Thomas Jefferson Dawson, 61, drove himself to the hospital after his wife allegedly shot him in their home.
He was treated and released
In a press release issued late Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office said that Ms. Best was threatening suicide and pulled a hand gun from her purse.
Instead of turning the weapon on herself, however, Ms. Dawson shot her husband in the hip and left the residence. She was found some time later by deputies and brought to the Sheriff's Office where she was officially charged.
Bond was withheld due to the fact the incident involved domestic violence.
