Fraud
A woman shopping for student loans was taken in by an Internet scam, according to a Goldsboro police report. Shaniece Carissa, 26, of 225 Randall Lane, told investigators that she applied for a loan online. After filling out the application, Ms. Carissa was contacted and instructed to send $500 as an installment fee. She did and was then told send an additional $300 which she also did, using a prepaid debit card both times. She heard nothing further from the alleged dummy loan corporation and her attempts to contact the company failed. The investigation is still open.
Break-ins
A husband and wife discovered both their cars were broken into Wednesday morning. According to a Goldsboro police report, Eric Albert Reyes, 31, and Thi Lynn Gallen, 39, both of 533 W. New Hope Road, told police that both cars were broken into overnight. Items taken included a men's diamond ring, a GPS unit, a pair of Bose headphones and other jewelry. The total value of the stolen property was more than $1,2000.
