More details have emerged in the case of the man who allegedly stabbed himself in the chest early Monday morning.

Police now say Perrin's injuries resulted from him climbing through a broken out window.

Emmanuel Dillon Perrin, 24, was arrested after 2:30 a.m. Monday after breaking into the home of his girlfriend and trying to snatch their child.

He was found in a pool of his own blood near the front door of Kenya Rudolph's residence at 214 Alpha Court in the Alpha Arms housing complex.

Perrin was asked to leave the home by the 26-year-old Ms. Rudolph and created a disturbance outside the residence, according to the press release.

There were three adults and three children present when Perrin then broke out a window and climbed back into the home.

All of the occupants ran to a back bedroom and locked themselves in a closet.

Perrin tried unsuccessfully to take his infant son away from Ms. Rudolph.

It is then police say he went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife.

According to the investigation report, Perrin stabbed himself in the chest and fell by the front door where police found him.

A later press release stated, however, that Perrin was taken into custody after a brief struggle and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment of the wounds he suffered when climbing through the window.

"The knife 'wounds' to his chest were merely superficial," Sgt. Dwayne Dean of the Goldsboro Police Department said in a statement via email.

Dean confirmed that Perrin was unconscious when police and EMS arrived on scene, but regained consciousness while being tended to and had to be subdued.

Perrin was eventually charged with first-degree burglary and is held under a $40,000 secured bond.
