The Goldsboro Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff's Office may soon have $45,434 to split between departments should they be awarded the U.S. Department of Justice's 2013 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.
A notice from the office of Goldsboro City Manager Scott Stevens was distributed last week announcing the application for the grant.
It's something that is applied for and typically received annually, Stevens said.
Goldsboro Police Chief Jeff Stewart said his department would use its half of the award to purchase and equip a new police cruiser. The department purchased 13 new cruisers in 2012 and has been slowly phasing them into operation.
Last year's grant money went to the purchase of Tasers.
