Election filings are open

Four members of the Mount Olive Town Board filed for re-election Friday afternoon during the first day of filing for this November's municipal and sanitary districts in Wayne County.

Two candidates, including one incumbent, filed for the Southern Wayne Sanitary District Board.

The filing period opened Friday at noon and will close Friday, July 19, at noon.

Filing on Friday were Mount Olive Mayor Ray McDonald Sr., At-large Commissioner Ray Thompson. District 2 Commissioner Hosea Manley and District 4 Commissioner Gene Lee.

Also up for election are Commissioners Kenny Talton (District 1) and George Fulghum (District 3).

Bobby Ray Outlaw filed for re-election to the Southeastern Sanitary District, as did challenger Danny Edwards

Municipal offices up for election this year are:

* Pikeville: Mayor Johnny Weaver and Commissioners Lyman Galloway and Ward Kellum, all four-year terms

* Eureka: Mayor Doug Booth and Commissioners Billy Martin and Leroy Wellington, all four year-terms

* Seven Springs: Mayor Stephen Potter, two-year term, and Commissioners Karen Mozingo, four-year term

* Walnut Creek: Mayor Darrell Horne and Councilman Russell Prys, four-year terms.

All of the municipal elections are non-partisan as are the sanitary districts.

The four-year sanitary district offices to be decided are:

* Belfast-Patetown: Joseph Brown, Landis Davis, Fred Newcomb, Ray Sullivan and Ben Casey Jr.

* Eastern Wayne: Daryl Anderson, Brandon Gray, Billie Lee, Carl Mozingo and James Sutton

* Southeastern Wayne: Charlie Holloway, Sam Casey, Edith Smith, James Taylor and Bobby Outlaw

* Fork Township: Henry Braswell, Larry Grady and Wayne Alan Westbrook

* Southern Wayne: Sally Rawls Bowles and Gary Scott.
