An early morning home invasion on Slaughter Street resulted in a man being stabbed with a butcher knife.
Just before 5:15 a.m. today, four men broke into the home of Shavonda Leann Jones, 27, at 1004 Slaughter St.
Ms. Jones and her boyfriend, Shawn Stevenson, 31, were in bed and awoke to a man standing in their bedroom with a butcher knife in his hand, according to the police report.
Stevenson began to argue with the suspect, who threw an XBox game console at him then stabbed him in the back, resulting in what investigator's called "non-life threatening injuries."
As Stevenson and his attacker fought, the knife fell to the floor and was kicked under the bed where it was later recovered by investigators.
The suspect and his three cohorts, at least one of whom was armed with a handgun, fled the scene before police arrived.
"We do have some viable leads we're following up on, and we expect to make some arrests soon," said Sgt. Dwayne Dean of the Goldsboro Police Department.
Investigators remained on the scene and in the community, trying to locate evidence and to identify the suspects and potential witnesses.
