MOUNT OLIVE -- A town of Mount Olive public works employee, Thomas Andrew Lee "Andy" Muncy, 22, 3743 US 13 S., Goldsboro, was terminated from his job and charged with embezzlement by a local government employee on May 1.
Muncy allegedly used a "town gas card" to purchase over $2,000 worth of gasoline, totaling 590 gallons for his personal vehicle. He made 60 transactions on the card from July, 2012 to March 2012, police said.
According to the police report, Public Works Director Jammie Royall informed police that "it had been discovered that (Muncy) had been using the town gas card for his own personal use" at times when he was not working for the town.
Police said Royall discussed the matter with Muncy's immediate supervisor, Mitchell Davis, and Muncy "admitted to Davis that he had in fact used the card to put gas in his personal vehicle."
The police report noted that Muncy "did apologize" and said "he would be willing to pay the town back."
A police investigator said he informed Muncy that Royall and Town Manager Charles Brown would be asked "how they wanted the investigation handled."
A warrant for Muncy was issued later.
