SEVEN SPRINGS -- Deputies nabbed the suspect coming out of the woods, but it was a vigilant neighbor whose quick thinking and willingness to act led to the capture of a would-be thief Monday.

Timothy Wydal Alston Jr., 24, was seen breaking into a house and removing items in a Seven Springs neighborhood, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.

The house, located on Indian Springs Road, was visible to a neighbor who witnessed the incident as it was happening and called 911.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched, and when Deputy Joseph Borgquist and Cpl. Ryan Sasser arrived on scene, the suspect had already fled.

The witness was able to give the officers, now joined by detectives Sgt. Darren Craig and Sgt. Larry Mitchell, a description of the suspect and the direction in which he was last seen heading, which was into the woods.

Officers discovered property "in various locations" outside the home, including three electric guitars, an amplifier and a flat-screen television. The recovered items were valued at $2,360.

Not more than an hour later, Alston was seen coming out of the woods. He was apprehended without incident and charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. Alston was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond.
