Wayne Community College's Class of 2013 is ready to receive its sheepskins in two ceremonies next week.

The curriculum (college credit) commencement ceremony will take place May 10 for an estimated 650 graduates receiving 239 certificates, 101 diplomas, and 476 associate degrees. Last year's class had 604 members.

The ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. at Love Temple in Goldsboro. Admission is by ticket only.

Speaker for the event is graduate Michale Cherry-Newton, recipient of WCC's 2012 Dallas Herring Achievement Award and a medical assisting major. John Peacock, immediate past chairman of the WCC Foundation, will present the college's annual George E. Wilson Excellence in Teaching Award.

The WCC Basic Skills Program will hold its ceremony on Thurs., May 9, at 6 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium. Candidates for graduation this year include 47 receiving Adult High School (AHS) diplomas and 292 earning General Educational Development (GED) diplomas.

AHS and GED graduates will be provided four guest tickets; others may sit in the overflow room and watch live video feed.

Two students will be featured on the program that evening -- Asia Thomas, an AHS graduate, and Omar Escobedo, a GED graduate.

Both events will be streamed live on the college's website, waynecc.edu, and via Android and iPhone/iPad apps available at http://www.ustream.tv/platform#on-your-mobile.
