The Greater Carolinas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will host Goldsboro's 2013 Walk MS event on Saturday at Herman Park. Walk MS, an annual fundraiser for over 20 years, is an opportunity for the community to support the estimated 14,400 individuals who are living with multiple sclerosis in our chapter area. The Goldsboro event hopes to raise $30,000 towards the overall Walk MS fundraising goal of $1.26 million.

This year's event aims to be the largest yet, with more than 300 walkers anticipated.

"The turnout of supporters (in 2012) was amazing," said Jeff Furst, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Carolinas Chapter. "We appreciate the efforts of everyone who worked so hard to make this event a success, and we look forward to seeing continued fundraising efforts push us closer to our goal."

Sixty percent of all the funds raised will go toward programs, services and advocacy for people living with MS, and 40 percent supports national research to find the cause and cure of MS. In addition to the 3-mile walk , the event will feature a DJ and lunch for the participants. There will be a large team tailgating area where participants can enjoy the day's festivities with their friends, family and co-workers, as well as kids' entertainment.
