The former Belk's department store building in Mount Olive will be the first stop Tuesday morning for Wayne County commissioners during their tour of county-owned facilities.

The county plans to renovate the building to use as the home of the town's Steele Memorial Library.

Commissioners will gather at 8:30 a.m. in their meeting room on the fourth floor of the county courthouse annex prior to setting out on the tour, their second in as many months.

On Feb. 18, commissioners toured county-owned facilities in the downtown Goldsboro area as well as a few just outside that area.

The schedule for the Tuesday tour includes the Mount Olive EMS station; a drive-through of the Mount Olive Industrial Park; N.C. 111 tower site; Seven Springs EMS station; Dudley EMS station; Dudley main landfill site; Genoa pump stations; Sheriff's Office Annex; Wayne Executive Jetport near Pikeville; Pikeville Library; Fremont EMS Station; 911 main tower site; Madison Avenue EMS Station 6 and Wayne NET; ParkEast; and the Goldsboro branch of the Wayne County Public Library.

Facilities were identified as one of commissioners' top priorities during their January planning retreat.

They have said they want an inventory of all county buildings and their cost to taxpayers as well. They also want to know who the tenants are, and whether or not they are paying for use of the buildings.
