Goldsboro police say they have arrested a suspect who is charged with shooting a man in the parking lot of Bob's Supermarket on Slocumb Street Monday night.

Demetrius Tyshad Lewis, 24, is recuperating from his wound at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he is listed in good condition as of this morning.

On Tuesday morning, police arrested Shaquan Davis, 27, and charged him with the shooting. The also arrested Jermel Mercel Wallace, 21, in connection with an previous armed robbery of Lewis and another man, Stephan Ross, earlier this month. Wallace was found hiding in a closet in the same apartment as Davis on the 800 block of Day Circle.

"We had a good morning. We were not expecting to find Mr. Wallace in that closet," said Sgt. Dwayne Dean.

A second suspect in the armed robbery is still being sought. The robbery took place Feb. 11 in the parking lot of the KFC on East. Ash Street.

Davis was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury. In addition, he faces six previous felony charges and four misdemeanors for which he had outstanding warrants. Those charges include breaking and entering, assault on a female, second-degree trespassing and possession of marijuana.

He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $303,000 secured bond.

Wallace was charged with two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and found to be an absconder from probation and parole, and was therefore also charged with injury to personal property for removing an electronic monitoring device. He was given a $200,500 secured bond for the first two charges and no bond for the probation violation.

Dean said it does not appear that the two attacks on Lewis were connected.
