Nine students to compete for Miss EWHS Friday

Miss Eastern Wayne High School 2013 will be crowned Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium at Wayne Community College.

Nine contestants are vying for this year's title.

The pageant is sponsored by the Family, Career & Community Leaders of America. More than $6,000 in scholarship money will be awarded to the top three winners. Special guests will include Miss Goldsboro 2013 Beth Stovall and Morgan Powell, Miss Eastern Wayne 2012.

Hailey Best, a former Eastern Wayne student and Miss North Carolina 2011, will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased from the contestants or the pageant director, Jessica Gray, at EWHS, at 919-751-7120.

Contestants include the following:

*Raehanna Evans, 17, will perform a piano solo of "Killing Me Softly." Raehanna is the daughter of Beajeanna Goodman and Lasann Evans. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to major in accounting.

*Candice Jackson, 18, will sing "All American Girl" made popular by Carrie Underwood. Candice is the daughter of L.B. Jackson and Joseph & Rhonda Marchese. She plans to attend Wayne Community College to study nursing.

*Sarah Lapas, 17, will play "Old Joe Clark" on the violin. The daughter of Adrian & Alicia Lapas, she plans to attend a 4-year university to pursue a degree in nursing.

*Lindsey Lloyd, 17, will perform a contemporary dance to "When Love Takes Over" by David Guetta & Kelly Rowland. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to pursue a degree in physical and occupational therapy. Her parents are Randall and Della Lloyd.

*Shelby Muehlenthaler, 17, will perform a jazz dance to "The Way You Make Me Feel" by Michael Jackson. The daughter of Dave and Julie Muehlenthaler, she plans to attend East Carolina University to study physical therapy.

*Alaina Ruggery, 18, will tap dance to "Tight Rope" by Janelle Monae. Her parents are Joseph and Lisa Ruggery. She plans to attend North Carolina State University to study Biochemistry and pursue a career in orthodontics.

*Courtney Sembly, 17, will sing "And I Am Telling You" made popular by Jennifer Hudson. The daughter of Craig and Laura Sembly, she plans to attend college and pursue a career in dentistry.

*Meagan Sutton, 17, will perform a pointe dance to "Boogie Shoes" by K.C. and the Sunshine Band. The daughter of Beth and Ben Smith and Alan and Jeannie Sutton, she plans to attend a four-year university to major in education.

*Zhane Wade, 16, will perform a jazz dance to "Show Me How to Burlesque" by Christina Aguilera. She is the daughter of Kerri McDowell-Wade and John Wade and plans to attend East Carolina University to major in biochemistry and radiology.
