SMITHFIELD -- Authorities have captured the man wanted in connection with Sunday's double murder on Old Mount Olive Highway.

Jujuan Cox, 28, 106 Evelyn Circle, was taken into custody this morning after SWAT teams from Wayne and Johnston counties, along with officers from the State Bureau of Investigation, swarmed a Motel 8 in Smithfield.

Cox, who was apprehended after a 36-hour manhunt following the shooting deaths of Anthony Jamal Kornegay, 28, and Nakiea Felicia Garner, 30, at a home at 1172B Old Mount Olive Hwy., is currently being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail.

Two others were wounded during the shooting. Tre Stokes was struck in the upper thigh and had severe damage to his leg, and Leonard Darden, 31, was hit in the arm and was treated and later released from the emergency room at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Sheriff Carey Winders said lawmen located the suspect briefly on Monday night around sundown in the Lane Tree Golf Club area, but Cox "jumped and ran into the woods."

Officials issued a Code Red warning for residents in the area, urging them to lock their doors and to take safety precautions.

Officers were unable to track the suspect, but deputies in Johnston County located him in the Motel 8 this morning and a unit made up of both state and local lawmen surrounded the building and arrested Cox without incident.
