DUDLEY -- A wreck on Old Mount Olive Highway today sent four middle school students to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol said the children's injuries were minor.
Maria Loa Nunez, 25, 200 Waldrop Road, who was transporting the children, was cited for not having an operator's license and for improper passing. The four students who were being transported were not identified.
The accident happened near Brogden Primary School as students were being dropped off. According to the trooper who responded, Ms. Nunez was at fault.
"(The other vehicle) was a 15-passenger van full of migrant workers headed to the sweet potato field behind the school," Trooper A.R. Fowler said. "The driver of a Ford Explorer crossed the double line and went to pass the van (on the left) and they collided, causing her to overturn."
Fowler said the migrant workers fled the scene, leaving only the driver of the passenger van to answer questions. Victor Jimenez Vargas, 49, 117 Talbert Drive, was not injured in the accident.
