1856 Presbyterian Church

Faced with a hefty price tag, the Wayne County Historical Association knows it takes a village to raise a roof.

The 1856 Presbyterian Church on the northeast corner of the intersection of Ash and James streets is one of the oldest buildings downtown, boasting a roof that is nearly a century-old.

That roof is in disrepair and will need to be replaced at a cost of about $80,000, so the Association is turning to another refurbished building nearby to help with fundraising -- the home of Judith McMillen.

Ms. McMillen, along with her husband, Glenn Barwick, have restored the old Borden family home at the corner of George and Mulberry streets to its former glory and now are opening up their home, complete with holiday decorations, for photos in an effort to raise money for the repairs to the Presbyterian Church, also known Town Meeting Hall.

Pets and children can be photographed at the home with Santa Claus for $20, with all proceeds going to restore the church.

A professional photographer will be at the home at 201 N. George St. from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, and reservations can be made by calling 919-778-2201 weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
