Meals to be offered to needy

A hot meal, winter clothing and fellowship will be among the offerings of a local congregation Saturday morning, as members of the Pentecostal Holy Church on Pine Street are set to host a Thanksgiving event for Goldsboro's homeless population.

And Minister Linda Morrison said members of the community still have a chance to participate in the event designed to help those who are struggling to make ends meet.

Donations -- from canned food to meat and warm clothing -- are still being accepted at the church and those who wish to volunteer are encouraged to show up there at 11 a.m.

"There are so many people out there in need," the minister said. "We want to show them that there's somebody out there that actually loves them."

Those who turn out for the event -- several hundred could attend -- will be greeted by a warm embrace and a hot meal.

Then, they will be sent to where clothing and Thanksgiving baskets will be waiting.

But perhaps the most important part of the morning, Mrs. Morrison said, is the worship service -- when members of the congregation attempt "to win souls; to bring them into the kingdom of God."

Those interested in contributing goods or their time to the event are asked to call the minister at 919-288-9170.
