One dead in crash on I-795

An accident on I-795 North near its intersection with N.C. 222 in northwest Wayne County left one man dead and another seriously injured early today.
According to investigators with the state Highway Patrol, the driver of a southbound vehicle apparently lost control and crossed into the northbound lanes and was immediately struck by an oncoming BMW.
The driver of the BMW was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident, which occurred at about 6:30 a.m.
Neither driver had been identified as of press time.
