Mount Olive Christmas Parade will take to streets Dec. 1

MOUNT OLIVE -- Former Miss North Carolina Hailey Best will serve as the grand marshal for the Mount Olive Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 1.

The parade will start at 10 a.m., with the parade lineup beginning at 9 a.m. at the corner of Henderson Street and North Breazeale Avenue.

The route will begin at the Mt. Olive Shopping Centre. It will turn south on North Breazeale Avenue, turn left on Pollock Street, and then left again on the east side of Center Street before disbanding at the Mount Olive Fire Station.

The entry deadline is Monday, Nov. 19.

There is a $30 entry fee for all motorized vehicles and homemade floats (one entry only), $50 for all motorcycle, ATV, golf cart, and car clubs (or for more than one entry from an organization), $25 for all horse or bicycle groups, $10 for walking groups, and no charge for emergency vehicles. All late entries will be charged a fee of $30.

Names will be added to the lineup following the receipt of the entry fee, and latecomers will be placed in the lineup on Saturday morning.

Prizes include trophies for the "Best Fire Unit" and participation plaques will be awarded to each band entry. Cash prizes to be awarded in the "Best Homemade Float" competition include $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.

The parade is sponsored by the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce, with lineup assistance provided by the Mount Olive Jaycees.
