How Powell Bill money is disbursed

The first disbursement of Powell Bill funds were given to qualified municipalities in 1951, when 386 municipalities were given a combined $4.5 million.

This year's total disbursement will be $142.8 million, divided among more than 500 municipalities based on a population of 5.2 million and more than 22,000 miles of streets maintained by those towns.

Below is the breakdown of the statistics used to calculate the amount of funds awarded to Wayne County's municipalities during the 2012-13 disbursement:

* Eureka: $6,055 based on a population of 197 and 1.26 miles of streets

* Fremont: $43,873.22 based on a population of 1,257 and 11.29 miles of streets

* Goldsboro: $1,003,458.40 based on a population of 35,768 and 169.20 miles of streets

* Mount Olive: $137,639.36 based on a population of 4,634 and 26.66 miles of streets

* Pikeville: $22,334.91 based on a population of 661 and 5.48 miles of streets

* Seven Springs: $4,426.84 based on a population of 111 and 1.34 miles of streets

* Walnut Creek: $35,305.06 based on a population of 844 and 11.21 miles of streets.
