Wayne Community College will be well represented at this year's Community College System Conference, being held in Raleigh this week.

The largest event sponsored by the N.C. Community College System office kicks off the celebration of the system's 50th anniversary. The theme is, "SuccessNC: Access. Excellence. Completion."

A dozen instructors and staff members from WCC have been chosen to share their experiences and expertise with representatives from the state's 58 community colleges. All submitted proposals to participate in the three-day event, which includes workshops, roundtable discussions, meetings of various community college associations and exhibits.

"Wayne Community College will be well represented at this conference, not only by the number who are presenting, but also in the quality of the information they will be sharing about our successes and best practices," said Dr. Peggy Teague, WCC vice president of academic and student services. "We have 100 members of our faculty and staff attending this conference. That says how much we value this opportunity to gather ideas we can use at our institution."

Presenters from WCC and their sessions include:

*President Kay Albertson with Mike Haney of the Wayne County Development Alliance, "WORKS -- A Model Approach for a Work-Ready Community"

*Tammy Bishop, pre-curriculum department chair, roundtable discussion on, "Facing the Giants: Helping Students Deal with Out of Class Obstacles,"and in a concurrent session with Laura Kalbaugh, of Wake Technical Community College, on "Developmental Math Redesigned Curriculum Materials: Achieving a Balance of Conceptual, Contextual and Skills"

*Angela Boyette, Basic Skills Department math instructor, and Karen Burnette, Basic Skills labs coordinator, "College-Career-Life and Math Modules"
