KINSTON -- The CSS Neuse State Historic Site and the Governor Caswell Memorial will be hosting a special program on Saturday, Sept. 15, focusing on "Military Through the Ages."

The event will be a chance to look back at the many wars that have shaped our nation. There will be re-enactors portraying soldiers from the American Revolution through World War II. The event is free and open to the public. It will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Visitors will be invited to learn about uniforms, accessories, equipment, and weapons that soldiers carried with them during the wars represented. There will be demonstrations and drills of some of the weapons to exemplify the differences from one time period to another.

Public response to a similar event last year prompted organizers to bring the program back for a second time. This year this program will be held in place of the Revolutionary War Program that has been held at the site.

The site's gift shop will be available throughout the program.

The Governor Caswell Memorial will be open with exhibits featuring Governor Caswell's life and career. All activities are free of charge, but donations will be accepted.

Visitors should note that the CSS Neuse Civil War gunboat has moved to 101 North Queen St., and limited exhibits will open later this year.

The CSS Neuse State Historic Site and Governor Richard Caswell Memorial is an agency of the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources and is located at 2612 West Vernon Ave. in Kinston.
