CLINTON -- Five people were injured, some critically, in what is believed to have been a shoot-out on Sunset Avenue (N.C. 24) near the U.S. 421 Bypass.
A portion of Sunset Avenue was expected to be closed to traffic until at least noon, according to reports from The Sampson Independent this morning.
The road was littered with debris from two vehicles, according to the newspaper report. A passenger vehicle was in the roadway, and a SUV was overturned on the shoulder.
A third vehicle believed to be a white Honda is being sought.
The newspaper reported that the incident began about 4 this morning before ending in the wreck and possible shooting.
At least one of the vehicles involved is thought to have been innocent motorists.
