AAR officials Friday confirmed the layoff of 169 temporary workers at its Goldsboro facility's Mobility Systems Division.

The plant, which opened in Park East in 2006, is home to two AAR divisions -- the Mobility Systems Division and the Cargo Systems Division, which was not part of the layoff.

"AAR's Mobility Systems Division conducted layoffs for 169 temporary employees at its Goldsboro facility," AAR spokesman Chris Mason said Friday afternoon. "These were temporary employees hired through outside agencies to ramp up during a period of peak demand."

The temporary employees had been working on a contract for military shelters that mount on the backs of Army trucks, Mason said

"The Army's requirements included a peak demand over the summer season and that has since declined," he said. "As a result, the business needed to align its temporary workforce with the volume of work.

"Lastly, it is never easy when such a great group of people are affected by these shifts in work requirements."

Mason said that AAR is actively seeking work that can be performed at the facility

Headquartered at Chicago, AAR has 17 different businesses located around the world.
