Tourism spending -- a history

Tourism spending in Wayne County has more than doubled since 1991, the first year of available statistics for comparison, and it has increased from each year to the next except for four instances.

Below shows Wayne County tourism spending data since 1991 provided by the N.C. Division of Tourism, Film and Sports development:

*1991 - Spending: $58.79 million

*1992 - $59.91 million (1.91 percent increase)

*1993 - $63.65 million (6.24 percent increase)

*1994 - $66.5 million (4.48 percent increase)

*1995 - $69.76 million (4.9 percent increase)

*1996 - $75.07 million (7.61 percent increase)

*1997 - $78.88 million (5.08 percent increase)

*1998 - $78.64 million (0.3 percent decrease)

*1999 - $84.75 million (7.77 percent increase)

*2000 - $91.55 million (8.02 percent increase)

*2001 - $87.71 million (4.19 percent decrease)

*2002 - $96.08 million (9.54 percent increase)

*2003 - $98.08 million (2.08 percent increase)

*2004 - $103.19 million (5.21 percent increase)

*2005 - $101.78 million (1.37 percent decrease)

*2006 - $108.64 million (6.74 percent increase)

*2007 - $113.03 million (4.04 percent increase)

*2008 - $120.26 million (6.4 percent increase)

*2009 - $116.65 million (3 percent decrease)

*2010 - $126.5 million (8.44 percent increase)

*2011 - $138.58 million (9.55 percent increase)

Total tourism spending increase from 1991 to 2011: 235 percent
