Beginning Saturday, the Goldsboro Optimist Club will start collecting used computers from the public in the parking lot at Sam's Club on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon.

Items needed by the club for its Computers4Kids program are used computers with Windows XP or later operating system, LCD monitors, keyboards, and mice.

It will be a drive-through operation and people will not have to get out of their vehicle because Goldsboro Optimist Club members will be hand to accept the items.

The collection point will be in the southwest corner of the front parking lot at Sam's Club. People should look for a white canopy and people in gold colored T-shirts.

The Goldsboro Optimist Club, a Microsoft Registered Refurbisher, refurbishes used computers and provides them, for a small fee, to low-income families with children in middle and high schools of the Wayne County Public School system.

The refurbishing process includes the destruction and removal of all personal data from the hard disk drives.
