Attempted fraud
Employees of The Little Bank, 201 N. Center St., reported to police Tuesday that someone attempted to wire $74,000 from an account that was not theirs, to an address in Maryland.
An unknown suspect called the bank Monday and provided an account holder's information. They then asked for the wire transfer. Bank officials contacted the other member listed on the account to confirm and found that neither account holder knew of the transaction. The transfer was not authorized and the incident was reported.
Tabernacle's copper taken
The Gospel Tabernacle Church of Deliverance, 1015 N. James St., is the latest church to report a copper theft. A second building belonging to the church was found Tuesday to have two air conditioning units damaged.
Had Ratios Jr., 60, of Pikeville, discovered the damage and contacted police. According to the report the units were last seen secure July 14. The reporting officer indicated that he had seen the damaged units on July 20 but assumed they had already been reported. The total damage and lost copper was valued $6,050.
12-speed stolen
A blue mountain bike was reported stolen Tuesday. Sheneka Lassiter, 35, 1203 Cindy Circle, told police that her child's bicycle was stolen from her front yard. Later in the day Lassiter witnessed someone riding a bike she believed to be her son's. Lassiter gave a description of the bike and the person she saw riding it heading east on Berry Street.
Guns and jewels stolen
A break-in Tuesday netted thieves two handguns, a shotgun and a wealth of gold jewelry. Eddie Franklin Day, 72, 114 Glenn Drive, said that a .357 Astra, a .38 Ruger and a Remington shotgun fell into the hands of the suspects. They also stole three gold rings with Masonic and shriner insignias as well as a gold chain and charm. The total value of stolen items was more than $14,000.
