The same day that Goldsboro's most recent murder victim is laid to rest, his alleged killer will appear before a judge.

Goldsboro police filed first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder charges Wednesday against Antony Jacob Lewis, 26, of 205 E. April Lane.

The man was arrested by Investigator Jeffrey T. Beeken at the Goldsboro Police Department without incident at 11:50 a.m., after the suspect came in voluntarily for questioning.

Lewis is charged in connection with the Saturday morning stabbing that took the life of Vanico Dicole Perkins, 37, of Dudley, and severely injured Brian Christopher Wynn, 35, of Goldsboro -- the stabbing occurred in an open field near the 400 block of Wilmington Avenue around 4 a.m.

After the attack, Perkins and Wynn were driven in separate vehicles to Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Perkins died and Wynn was rushed into emergency surgery and remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Police are not revealing any additional information regarding what they characterize as an ongoing investigation.

But according to earlier reports, the incident arose when Wynn and Perkins attempted to break up a fight involving Wynn's girlfriend.

Funeral services for Perkins were held today in Dudley, and Lewis, who is being held without bond in Wayne County Jail, was expected to appear in court.
