The surviving victim of Saturday's early morning stabbing incident that left one man dead is now stable, according to Goldsboro police.

Goldsboro Police Department's commander of investigations, Maj. Theresa Chiero, said Tuesday that Brian Christopher Wynn, 35, 1512 Hart Circle, is in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

"We have no information about when he will be released," said Chiero. "The investigation will continue."

Wynn was brought to Wayne Memorial after 4 a.m. Saturday along with Vanico Dicole Perkins, 37, of Dudley. Both men were stabbed several times. Wynn was immediately prepared for emergency surgery. Perkins, however, succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.

According to a report filed by GPD, both Perkins and Wynn were stabbed while breaking up a fight. Perkins had defensive wounds on his right hand.

Wynn told police he thought the woman was being jumped and tried to intercede. When he stepped in to help, a man described by Wynn as "a short, dark-skinned man" stabbed him.

Police have released no further information regarding a suspect or progress in the investigation. According to Chiero more information may be available later today.

Funeral services for Vanico Perkins will be held Thursday in Dudley.
