SECU gives out six scholarships

The State Employees' Credit Union Foundation, funded solely by credit union members, has presented a $10,000 four-year college scholarship to six Wayne County students.

The recipients are:

* Zachary Price, Spring Creek High School near Seven Springs. Price is the son of Cheryll M. Price. The scholarship was awarded for study at N.C. State University.

* Paul Bradley Glover, Charles B. Aycock High School at Pikeville. Glover is the son of Brian and Joy Glover. The scholarship was awarded for study at N.C. State University.

* Wesley Alan Stewart, Eastern Wayne High School, Goldsboro. Stewart is the son of Michael and Corinne Stewart. The scholarship was awarded for study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

* Aleyah Nichelle Brown, Goldsboro High School. Ms. Brown is the daughter of Felicia Brown. The scholarship was awarded for study at Winston-Salem State University.

* Virginia Leigh Simpson, Rosewood High School, Goldsboro. Ms. Simpson is the daughter of Tim and Sally Simpson. The scholarship was awarded for study at Western Carolina University.

* Meagan Nicole Stott, Southern Wayne High School, Dudley. Ms. Stott is the daughter of Charles and Teresa Stott. The scholarship was awarded for study at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The scholarships recognize the recipient's community involvement, leadership skills, character and integrity, as well as scholastic achievement of maintaining a 2.5 or higher grade point average.

The scholarship will be used for tuition and university approved educational expenses over eight consecutive semesters.

The "People Helping People" High School Scholarship program is in its eighth consecutive year. To date, SECU members have provided $28 million in scholarships through the foundation for North Carolina high school seniors through the program.
