Wayne County Public Schools and administrative offices will switch to a summer schedule this week.

The district will operate on a 10-hour-day workweek, closing on Fridays, officials said.

While the majority of schools across the county dismissed last week, Dillard Middle and Goldsboro High school students wrap up this week. GHS graduation ceremony will be Friday evening at 6 p.m. on the school's football field.

The district first implemented the four-day schedule in 2006 to cut operation expenses over the summer. In addition to the Friday closure, the district will observe Wednesday, July 4, as a holiday.

Administrative offices as well as the child nutrition department and exceptional children's departments will be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. A complete listing of summer hours, including such departments as maintenance, transportation, technology support and operations can be found on the district website, www.waynecounty schools.org.

The majority of schools will follow a schedule of 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with a few exceptions. Rosewood Middle and Spring Creek High will be open 6:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Tommy's Road Elementary, 6 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.; Wayne Academy, 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.; and Edgewood, 8 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Through July 27, Wayne Early/Middle College will be operate on a schedule of 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Wayne School of Engineering from 6 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Starting June 18 through Aug. 10, hours at Dillard Middle School will be 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and Goldsboro High hours will be 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
