Cherry Hospital volunteers recognized

Cherry Hospital recognized outstanding volunteers at its annual luncheon recently. Rudolph Stevens has made his way from his Wilson home to Cherry Hospital every Tuesday since 2011.
He conducts vesper services, come rain or shine, no matter how many may show up, said Chaplain Wilbert Johnson.
Stevens was named Chapel Volunteer of the Year this week, during the annual recognition luncheon. He along with three others were honored for their service.
Nancy Moore, a volunteer for 12 years, was presented with the Edythe O. Blanton Volunteer Service Award, named for the retired volunteer services director who worked at Cherry for 30 years, creating meaningful roles for volunteers in the field of mental health.
Mrs. Moore serves in a variety of capacities at the hospital. She is a member of the human rights committee, board member and assistant to the special services department for patient events and activities.
Judy Sasser and Jean Lassiter, retirees after working more than 30 years at the hospital, received the Retiree Volunteer of the Year award for their service in the medical records department.
They have both been very instrumental in assisting with a current project preparing for the move to the "new" Cherry Hospital, said Tanya Rollins, special services director.
Together the women have contributed over 329 hours in two years, she said.
