A Mount Olive man died in a two-car crash shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday on Summerlins Crossroads Road about 11 miles southeast of Mount Olive.

Pedro Ceballos, 53, of 1342 Tram Road, was fatally injured in the wreck and his wife, Maria Dejesus Ceballos, 41, was taken to Duplin General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Ceballos' vehicle was traveling north on Summerlins Crossroads Road when it was struck by a vehicle operated by Kimberly Carter Harrelson, 49, of Fuquay-Varina.

According to the Duplin County Highway Patrol report, Ms. Harrelson was traveling east on Beautancus Road. She stopped at the stop sign, but then attempted to cross Summerlins Crossroads Road, striking the Ceballos vehicle.

After impact, the vehicle operated by Ceballos ran off the left side of the road, rolled over on its right side and struck a tree.

Ms. Harrelson, who was not injured, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield.

No alcohol was involved, officers said. All three were wearing seat belts and shoulder restraints.

Damages totaled $1,200 to Ms. Harrelson's 2002 Chevrolet SUV and $6,500 to Ceballos' 2003 Oldsmobile.

Ceballos is a native of Mexico and was employed as a forklift operator at Mt. Olive Pickle Co.
