Three local highway projects, including the third and final section of the U.S. 70 Goldsboro Bypass, have been listed on the state Department of Transportation's 12-month tentative bid-letting schedule.

The other two projects on the list are improvements to North Berkeley Boulevard and a new bridge over Beaver Dam Creek.

Bids are scheduled to be let June 19 for the estimated $50.5 million five-mile section of the U.S. 70 Bypass from west of N.C. 581 east to Salem Church Road.

The state earlier this year awarded a $104.4 million contract to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro to design and construct the eastern leg of the bypass that stretches from just east of Wayne Memorial Drive to east of Promise Land Road in Lenoir County.

That section is actually a combined project -- the 3.3-mile Section BB from just east of Wayne Memorial to west of Creek Road and the 7.5-mile Section C from west of Creek Road in Wayne County to east of Promise Land Road.

Barnhill also built the first section of the bypass from just east of Wayne Memorial Drive to just west of Salem Church Road.

Work began Sept. 29, 2009, on that 3.3-mile, $65.3 million section that opened in December.

It is designated as N.C. 44 until the bypass's anticipated completion by the summer of 2016.

The estimated $2.5 million Berkeley Boulevard project is scheduled to be let on Aug. 21.

The 2.3-mile project includes widening, grading, drainage, paving and signals on Berkeley Boulevard from Royall Avenue to New Hope Road.

The bid to replace the bridge over Deaver Dam Creek on Oakland Church Road is set to be let Dec. 18. The project is expected to cost $650,000.
