Wayne County will sponsor rabies clinics on Saturday, March 17, and Saturday March 31 to give pet owners a chance to have their animals vaccinated against the disease.

The March 17 clinics will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m at Eastern Wayne High School and from 1-3 p.m. at the old Pikeville school building. A clinic also will be offered at the county Animal Shelter from 3:30 until 5 p.m,

The March 31 clinics will be offered at Grantham Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. and at Southern Wayne High School from 1-3 p.m.

Cost is $10 per animal.

The owner of every dog and cat over 4 months of age is required by law to have the animal vaccinated against rabies. Any animal receiving its first rabies vaccine is expected to receive another dose one year later and every three years thereafter.

Proof of prior rabies vaccination is required to receive a 3-year vaccination. If proof is not provided, a 1-year vaccination will be administered.
