The first completed section of the new U.S. 70 Bypass did more than provide a quicker trip between Wayne Memorial Drive and Interstate 795 -- it left some roads split with dead-ended sections in need of names.
When Wayne County commissioners meet Tuesday they are expected to schedule a public hearing on proposed new names for those sections of road.
County Manager Lee Smith is recommending that the public hearing be held March 20 at 9:15 a.m. in the commissioners' meeting room on the fourth floor of the county courthouse annex, 224 E. Walnut St.
The bypass project split North William Street and Tommy's Road, creating three dead-end sections.
The proposed names are:
* Portion of North William Street (U.S. 117) south of Belfast Road to dead end -- change name to O'Rourke Court
* Portion of U.S. 117 North from Belfast Road north to dead end -- change name to Peanut Court
* Portion of Tommy's Road (SR 1571) east of U.S 117 North to dead end -- change name to Barden Scott Lane.
The state Department of Transportation has not assigned Secondary Road numbers to these roads.
The Planning Board reviewed the proposed changes at its Feb. 14 meeting and recommended they be approved.
Tuesday's session will begin with an 8 a.m. agenda briefing followed by the regular session at 9 a.m. in the commissioners' meeting room.
