Rocky Mount man to again represent Wayne to DOT

Gus Tulloss of Rocky Mount has been reappointed by Gov. Bev. Perdue to the North Carolina Board of Transportation representing Division 4 that includes Wayne County.

"Thank you for your willingness to continue to serve the state of North Carolina," Gov. Perdue said. "I am deeply grateful for people like you who are willing to give their time and talent to move North Carolina forward. Your diligent and effective service has already made a difference for our state."

Tulloss was first appointed to the board in 2008 by then Gov. Mike Easley to fill an unexpired term. His new term will end Jan. 15, 2015.

The board consists of 19 members, 14 represent divisions and five serve as at-large members. They are appointed by the governor and meet twice a month in Raleigh year round.

Division 4 is headquartered in Wilson and also includes Nash, Wilson, Johnston, Edgecombe and Halifax counties. It has approximately 750 employees throughout the six counties.

Tulloss currently serves as chairman of the board's Audit and Contract Committee, Statewide 2040 Plan Subcommittee and Aviation Subcommittee.

His is president and CEO of Gus H. Tulloss Insurance in Rocky Mount and Morehead City. He is a member of the local, state and national Association of Life Underwriters and is a member of the Life Insurance Million Dollar Roundtable.

Tulloss is past president of the North Carolina Jaycees and former member of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. He is a past chairman of the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce and was the 2005 recipient of the Boy Scouts of America's Distinguished Citizen Award.

Tulloss was honored in 1975 as East Carolina University's Outstanding Alumni of the Year and in 1974 as one of the five Outstanding Young Men of North Carolina.
