Gunfire exchanged in Lincoln Homes
Goldsboro police responded to a call in the home at 910 B Slaughter St. where 21-year-old Fiante Semaj Amerson was found lying on the floor, suffering from a gunshot wound to the thigh.
According to the report, the man was outside the Goldsboro Housing Authority's Lincoln Homes community with a man identified only as "Black."
Three unidentified suspects approached, and shots were fired at Amerson.
Amerson told officers after he was shot, he fell to the ground, pulled out a Beretta .25 handgun and fired at the three suspects as they attempted to flee. Several spent shell casings were found where Amerson was wounded.
The incident occurred Sunday around 11 p.m.
Amerson was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital for his injury.
Student struck by side mirror
A sophomore of Charles B. Aycock High was struck by the side mirror of a passing pick-up truck on U.S. 117 Monday afternoon as school was being let out.
Wayne County School District officials said the male student was crossing the street to meet his parent who was parked in the parking lot of a vacant business.
A school resource officer was in the immediate area, officials said. The officer told the driver of the pickup, who had stopped, to continue as it appeared the student was not harmed in the incident.
Officials said a parent of the student later called 911, and the student was treated and released.
School officials reiterated that it is strongly discourages parents from picking their children up from across U.S. 117.
There are safe designated areas for pick up and drop off, and the school has made a concerted effort to impress upon parents to use these areas, officials said.
Copper thefts
The owner of two properties in 400 block of Wayne Avenue reported copper thefts at both units on Friday. According to the report $2,000 worth of various copper items and a $500 A/C unit were stolen from the homes.
