United Way's Taste of Wayne set for next week

Officials at the United Way are banking on it.
More than 20 local restaurants have already signed up to participate in the organization's "biggest event of the year" -- one that offers Wayne County residents a chance to help their neighbors by sampling food from Goldsboro, Mount Olive and beyond.
The Taste of Wayne is just around the corner.
And Whitney Jansta, the United Way's community engagement manager, said there are still plenty of tickets available for the event scheduled to kick off at Wayne Community College Oct. 13 at 5 p.m.
"Things are starting to pick up, so that's a good sign," she said.
But the organization still is not all that close to selling the 1,000 tickets it peddled last year.
"(To sell 1,000) that would be a fabulous thing to do," Mrs. Jansta said. "We've always appreciated that the community has come out to this event and supported the United Way ... and we think it will again this year."
The $15 tickets -- admission passes are currently available at the Wayne and Mount Olive Chambers of Commerce, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Outdoor Recreation Center, Zaxby's, the Country Skillet, Berry Towne Crafts at the O'Berry Center and online at www.UnitedWayne.org -- provide a three-hour dining and entertainment experience and a shot at door prizes.
Proceeds will be used to support United Way-funded programs.
"It's just a great event for the whole family to come to and show their support for people in the community," Mrs. Jansta said. "And it really brings a lot of funds that we can use."
All while providing a venue for local restaurants to showcase just what they bring to the table.
