N.C. DOT reaching out to minority firms for U.S. 70 work

The N.C. Department of Transportation is hosting an outreach meeting this Friday for Disadvantaged Business Enterprises interested in subcontracting opportunities on the upcoming Goldsboro Bypass design-build project.
The meeting will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. in the WLC 161 Seminar Room at Wayne County Community College, 3000 Wayne Memorial Drive.
DBE firms are minority- and women-owned businesses that have been in business at least three years, have sales of more than $300,000 and are positioned for growth in highway construction and related industries.
DOT is seeking DBE firms that specialize in activities such as hauling, clearing and grubbing, incidental concrete construction, pavement markings, storm drainage, guardrail, sediment and erosion control, and other highway-related trades.
The first section of the Goldsboro Bypass is currently under construction from east of Salem Church Road to east of Wayne Memorial Drive.
Friday's meeting is for the next section of the bypass, which will be a four-lane divided highway from east of Wayne Memorial Drive to east of Promise Land Road in Lenoir County.
DBE firms will have the opportunity to meet with the four short-listed contractors for the Goldsboro Bypass project including S.T. Wooten Corp., Barnhill Contracting Co., Flatiron Constructors Inc. and Bear Creek Constructors, a joint venture of Austin Bridge and Road LP, W.C. English Inc. and T.J. Lambrecht Construction Inc.
DOT engineers will provide an overview of the project, and Business Opportunity Workforce Development staff will explain the certifications and qualifications needed to work with the department.
