Wayne County Junior Miss is undergoing a name change, but is still looking for rising high school senior girls to compete in this year's scholarship program.
The local affiliate is an official preliminary of America's Distinguished Young Woman national scholarship program. It focuses on five areas of competition -- scholastics, talent, interview, fitness and self-expression. There is no entry fee and it is open to any young woman graduating from high school in the spring of 2012 that legally resides in Wayne County.
The person chosen to represent Wayne County will be named Distinguished Young Woman of Wayne County for 2012 and will go on to compete in the N.C. Distinguished Young Woman program in February 2012 in Greensboro. She will also receive cash scholarships as well as tuition scholarships.
Organizational meetings for those interested will be held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Mathnasium Learning Center, 2517 E. Ash Street, and Monday at 6 p.m. at LaFevers Dental Office, 101 Stevens Memorial Place. To RSVP or for more information, contact Casey Chudy, program chairperson, at 288-2828 or waynejuniormiss@hotmail.com.
