Four Eastern Wayne High School seniors have been awarded $12,500 in scholarships from the Emmet and Mary Robinson Trust Fund.

The trust fund was set up by the Robinsons to award annual scholarships to students who attend a Wayne County public high school. In addition to demonstrating financial need, recipients must intend to continue their education in the fields of medicine, nursing, agriculture or in the ministry of the Presbyterian and Episcopal churches.

Recipients are Priyanka Joshi, Connor Langston, Morgan Smith and Jackie Wille.

Ms. Joshi received a $4,000 award. She plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill and study medicine.

Ms. Wille's scholarship was in the amount of $3,500. She will be studying nursing at Wayne Community College.

Ms. Langston and Ms. Smith each received $2,500 awards. Ms. Langston plans to attend UNC-Wilmington and study dentistry. Ms. Smith will be pursuing a degree in nursing from East Carolina University.

The Robinson Trust Fund scholarships are renewable each year based on satisfactory academic standing and maintenance of the declared field of study.

"We are so appreciative of the Robinson family for their vision to assist deserving graduates in their personal and academic aspirations," said Dr. Sandra McCullen, associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction for WCPS. "This scholarship greatly impacts the recipients and their families. As educators, it is very rewarding to see students earn monetary awards for their academic achievement that can be used to further their education."
