Wayne County commissioners Tuesday morning declined to change the name of Harper Ham Road after members of the Ham family spoke against the change during a public hearing.
No one spoke in favor of the change.
The county had been asked to rename Harper Ham Road to Dyke Smith Road.
The road starts in Wayne County and is named Dyke Smith Road when it crosses in to Greene County. The 1.2-mile road stretches between Rodell Barrow Road in Wayne County and Oakdale Road in Greene County.
No one spoke at a second public hearing, this one on codifying the county's ordinances -- collecting and organizing them in a manner similar to the way state statutes are recorded. Currently each ordinance stands on its own.
A company has been working with the county to convert the ordinances to a format that can be placed on the county's website. However, the ordinances first must be codified.
Maintaining electronic versions will mean that the county would not have to maintain a large number of bound volumes that are outdated as soon as they are printed, county officials have said. A bound copy would still be available.
In other business Tuesday, the board approved two of three subdivision plats. Approved were:
* Kenneth Lamar Abel Jr. final, one lot on U.S. 117 Alternate in Brogden Township.
* Michael Robert Frowein final, one lot on Old Grantham Road in Brogden Township.
The board tabled action on the East Lake preliminary plat for 19 lots on Dollard Town Road in New Hope Township after questions were raised about access.
The East Lake plat will be the subject of a special meeting of the Wayne County Planning Board on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the County Administration Building, 209 South William St.
Commissioners canceled the board's July 5 and 19 meetings and meeting instead will meet on July 12.
Designated May 5 as A Day of Prayer in Wayne County.
