Family Y to be part of health initiative

Goldsboro Family Y, partnering with the Wayne County Health Department, has been chosen to participate in Pioneering Healthier Communities, an effort to promote healthier lifestyles in the community.
The YMCA was one of 16 in the nation, two in the state, chosen by YMCA of the USA to receive the $10,000 grant to work on strategic planning with their respective coalitions. Grants were awarded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The Goldsboro Y and the Health Department, as well as members of the Health & Wellness Alliance of Wayne County, applied for the program and will work with a team of local leaders and representatives from industries, schools, parks and recreation departments, foundations and hospital to plan and implement strategies for healthy change for the surrounding area.
