Artwork from three Wayne Community College students has been chosen as part of the 2011 North Carolina Community Colleges Art Exhibition, now on display in Raleigh.

The pieces and their creators are "It's What You See," a black and white photograph by Cady May, an associate in arts major from Goldsboro; "Lonely Tree," a spray can painting by Rosendo Molina, an associate in arts major from Mount Olive; and "The Turning," a painted bisque plate by Stacy Rhodes, a medical office administration major from Kenly.

The state exhibition includes 166 pieces of art representing the creative work of students, faculty and staff at the community colleges and its system office. The artwork includes paintings, sculpture, photographs, ceramics, drawings, mixed media, needlework, quilts and more.

"We were pleased with the variety of media our students submitted for consideration this year," said Tara Humphries, WCC public information officer, who coordinates the college's participation in the annual event. "We had photographs, paintings, drawings, ceramics, and spray can art, which was new to us. It was hard to pick just the three pieces that each college was allowed to send."

For the first time, all 58 community colleges in the state were represented, said Dr. Scott Ralls, N.C. community college system president.

The art will be on display through December on all six floors of the Caswell Building, which houses the community colleges' system office, at 200 W. Jones Street in Raleigh. Public tours are available on a limited basis and may be scheduled by calling 807-7100.
