Wayne Community College will host one of several free seminars being sponsored by the N.C. Department of Transportation's Division of Aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration.

It will be Feb. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the college's classrooms at the Wayne County Airport, 224 Aviation Road, Pikeville.

The seminars that are being held across the state are for aviation maintenance technicians. The two-hour aviation maintenance technician and inspection authorization renewal seminars are called, "Defensive Airport Navigation and AMT Stress."

The seminars will be conducted by NCDOT and FAA safety specialists and will cover runway safety, how to work with fewer resources, job pressure and stress, as well as provide tools for people to avoid incidents and accidents at the work place.

The seminars will be held in the following locations:

* Feb. 1: Blue Ridge Community College (Patton Building, Room 150), 180 West Campus Drive, Flat Rock

* Feb. 2: Foothill Aviation Conference Room, 3566 Morganton Lenoir Airport Ave., Morganton

* Feb. 3: Guilford Technical Community College, 819 Radar Road, Greensboro

* Feb. 8: Fayetteville Regional Airport Fire Training Facility, 3065 Radar Road, Fayetteville

* Feb. 10: N.C. Department of Transportation Division of Aviation hangar at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, 1050 Meridian Drive.

Attendees will receive credit toward the FAA Aviation Maintenance Tech Awards Program and inspection authorization requirements. The AMT Awards program encourages technicians and employers to take advantage of initial and recurrent training by issuing awards based on training received in one calendar year.

Interested maintenance technicians can go to the Division of Aviation website at www.ncdot.gov/aviation and click on "Aviation Events" to get more information on the seminars.
