RALEIGH -- Gabriel Germaal Smith, 28, of Goldsboro, has been arrested by the Raleigh Police Department and charged with statutory rape.

Smith reported his address in the 100 block of Hare Road.

The victim, a 14-year-old female, and Smith are believed to have been acquaintances at the time of the alleged incident.

The Raleigh police were notified of the alleged incident from a report filed by the Department of Social Services.

The charge is believed to stem from a single incident that occurred in September 2010.

Smith is being held at the Wake County Jail under a $300,000 secured bond.

He was scheduled to make his first appearance in the Wake County courts Monday.
