Wayne County Reads poetry contest open

Students who are considering participating in the Wayne County Reads poetry contest are encouraged to visit Wayne Community College's "Eastern N.C. to the Middle East" or the Arts Council of Wayne County's "A Country, A People" photo exhibits for inspiration.
The contest, which is open to Wayne County high school (grades 9-12) and college students, asks writers to craft poems that focus on Central South Asia, including the culture, geography, soldiers, weather, or other appropriate topics. In addition to the photos, Wayne County Reads' book selections "Three Cups of Tea" and "Stones Into Schools" by Greg Mortenson may provide more insight for poems.
Submission deadline is Feb. 7 and winners will be announced Feb. 19 during the Afghan Festival scheduled for 2-5 p.m. at the Arts Council of Wayne County.
