A Goldsboro man has been charged with several sexual offenses by both the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the Goldsboro Police Department.
Willie Brewington, 45, of Thoroughfare Road, was arrested Monday and charged with attempted first-degree rape and two counts of indecent liberties with a child by the Sheriff's Office and two additional counts of indecent liberties with a child by the Police Department. All charges are felonies. Brewington was charged by both departments because the alleged crimes took place in both the city and county.
A report was filed with the Sheriff's Office and Police Department on Aug. 19 by a family friend. According to Sheriff's Office Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom, the incidents began when the child was 7 years old and ended about a year ago when she was 11 years old. The Goldsboro Police Department said the victim is a family member.
Brewington was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $300,000 bond.
This is the third arrest in a string of arrests in the past week where the suspect has been charged with sexual offenses against a child.
On Friday, the Police Department arrested Harry Lee McCoy, 48, on an outstanding warrant for one count of indecent liberties with a child. A report of this incident was filed with the Police Department on Sept. 6. McCoy, of Quail Drive, was taken to the Wayne County Jail under a $75,000 bond.
Also last week, the Sheriff's Office arrested Thomas Gray, 63, of Lockmere Circle, Dudley, and charged him with first-degree rape of a child and first-degree sex offense with a child.
During the investigation of a felony child abuse case that was filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on Sept. 9 involving the same child but a with a different defendant, evidence was established that the child was an ongoing victim of sexual abuse since the age of 6. She is now 9. Gray was taken to Wayne County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
