Herman Park evacuated

Herman Park and the Herman Park Center have been evacuated this afternoon, after the Goldsboro Fire Department responded to a call shortly before 3 p.m. about a gas leak in Herman Park.
According to Fire Chief Gary Whaley, workers were driving a stake into the ground and struck a gas line 18 inches below ground.
The fire department and the Goldsboro Police Department evacuated the park and Herman Park Center until the gas company could arrive to turn off the gas and the fumes cleared the area. See Friday's News-Argus for more on this story.
